Carbondale seeks to be fiscal lead for $2M clean-energy accelerator; no match required

Town staff told trustees Carbondale has stepped forward as lead applicant and fiscal sponsor for a state energy-office opportunity to create a clean-energy accelerator and an innovation fund that would support rebates for efficiency and electrification.
Ryan Hyland said the town submitted a letter of intent that identified just over $2 million potentially available for the program, which would deliver household and business incentives to reduce energy costs and emissions. "Letter of intent identified just a little over 2 million that could be available for this program," Hyland said; he added the grant is still in contract negotiations and not yet finalized.
A staff member noted the program would not require a local match under the current terms. Commissioners and trustees discussed the goal of creating a sustainable funding source for Garfield Clean Energy so the county would not need to shoulder the majority of GCE’s budget in the future.
Town staff cautioned the arrangement is not yet complete and that contract terms and program details are being worked through with the state energy office.
