County says CR 108 bridge decking replaced; full reopening expected July 27

County staff briefed trustees on an unexpected structural failure on the County Road 108 bridge and the repair timeline.
An engineer and contractor evaluated the bridge after a large pothole exposed rusted-through decking welds. Contractors removed asphalt, installed new north-side decking and poured concrete in the valleys; south-side decking replacement and barrier adjustments are underway. "We're moving ahead of schedule" and the county expects to open the bridge by July 27, county staff said.
Staff said the pedestrian bridge has been kept open when safe and that communications have been frequent. Trustees suggested earlier and clearer road-closed signage near West Main or the roundabout to spare motorists a wasted trip; staff agreed to review sign placement and to continue variable-message alerts while fire restrictions are in effect.
County staff said the repair will extend the bridge's life because most components except for the girders have been replaced.
