The Waukesha City Ordinance and Licensing Committee met Feb. 24 and approved multiple licensing items while postponing one pending further information.
Chair called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. and, after confirming a quorum, the committee moved through invited licensing applications on the agenda.
The committee approved a sidewalk-café permit for People's Park. No representative of People's Park was present; a committee member moved to approve, another seconded, and the Chair announced the motion as made by Alderson Helvinsleben and seconded by Alderson Manion. The Chair said the motion passed unanimously.
The committee held an invited sidewalk-café application from Joey's Diner over to the next meeting after Committee member Alicia said she would not be in favor of moving forward without a representative present to answer questions. The Chair also cited concerns raised by the engineering department about items placed in the right of way, including flags and suggested fencing. A member formally moved to hold the item; the Chair indicated it would be deferred until representatives can attend.
An invited taxi driver and cab application for Best Cab, listed on the agenda as John Betler Wu, was approved after the applicant addressed the committee. The applicant said he owns a Milwaukee-based company with about 50 vehicles. A committee member moved to approve the application; another seconded, and the Chair said the motion was approved. The Chair noted the approval will be placed on the next council agenda and that permits are typically issued the day after council approval.
The committee also approved a temporary Class B retailer's license for the Waukesha Old Car Club. A member described the event as a long-standing city event and expressed no concerns; the motion to approve was seconded and the Chair announced the approval.
The Clerk's office reported no communications, and the Chair adjourned the meeting at 6:07 p.m.
Next steps: the approved items will be placed on the next city council consent agenda; the Joey's Diner sidewalk-café application will return to the committee with the applicant and responses to engineering concerns.
