Dan Thomas, Swansea’s building and zoning director, told the board on June 15 he recommends removing used auto dealers from the list of permitted uses in the planned business district.
"I don't see much value in a used auto dealer, specifically in the locations that allow a used auto dealer," Thomas said, explaining the recommendation reflects concerns about suitable uses for certain parcels and follow-up land-use study findings. He said the change would be placed on the Planning & Zoning docket for a public hearing on July 14.
Trustees indicated general support for pursuing the zoning change and asked staff to coordinate with the village attorney on ordinance language and timing. Thomas also updated trustees on fiber-optic work by I3 Broadband, Socket Fiber and a separate small scope run by ADB and said staff will be available to address restoration and road-repair issues associated with the installations.
The proposal is advisory to the Planning & Zoning body, which will hold the formal hearing; any zoning-text amendment would return to trustees after that process.
