Alvo board advances nuisance-abatement letters, reviews street plan and posts clerk vacancy

At its June 10, 2025 meeting, the Village of Alvo Board of Trustees discussed enforcement of local ordinances and an initial nuisance-abatement review completed by the Metropolitan Area Planning Agency (MAPA). MAPA will provide draft letters and notices; the board will review and approve MAPA’s letters before they are issued and noted MAPA is initially addressing major offenses only.
The board also reviewed a proposed One-and Six-Year Plan from JEO for street and infrastructure projects. Trustees requested any changes be communicated to JEO by July 31, 2025, and asked that the plan be returned for revision as the board identifies changes; Chairperson Chris Juilfs agreed to handle specified logistics tied to agenda item operations.
On operational matters the board approved renting the Village fire hall to Cassandra Miller for Aug. 2, 2025, for a $50 rental fee and recorded that a board member must provide building access and move a snowplow out of the bay while a volunteer firefighter will move the fire truck.
Interim Clerk/Treasurer Cathina Schueth requested that the vacant Clerk/Treasurer position be advertised in the Journal Star despite it not being the village’s circulatory newspaper; the board approved placing the advertisement. Schueth also reported administrative issues: Windstream phone subscription had not yet been cancelled due to Vonage setup problems; QuickBooks Online had an unintended charge after reactivation and QuickBooks will issue a 75% discount (the subscription previously had been 50% off). The clerk said the village’s NDOL (Department of Labor) combined tax and wage report for Q1 2025 remains delinquent and requires Trustee Mike Lanctot’s personal information to complete forms.
The meeting record also listed community-accounting items from Alvo Days 2024: $920 in registration fees (credited to the community event account), $580 in raffle receipts and $584.97 in food donations (credited to the Memorial Park Fund managed with the Alvo Eagle Rec. Association).
