Alvo trustees approve $18,554 in claims, exclude disputed PeopleServices heater fee

The Village of Alvo Board of Trustees approved payment of claims totaling $18,554.15 at its June 10, 2025 meeting but excluded a disputed PeopleServices heater fee from payment.

Chairperson Chris Juilfs, Vice Chairperson Gary Estes and Trustee Hunter Long voted to approve the claims after Interim Clerk/Treasurer Cathina Schueth presented a line-by-line list of checks and invoices. The approved register includes a $2,500 check to Maguire Iron for water tower repair, a $1,000 payment to Pirsch Legal Service, and two S&L Trenching LLC invoices listed as emergency water repairs for $8,450 (Feb. 8, 2025) and $2,400 (May 13, 2025) related to a leak at HWY 63 and 2nd Ave.

The minutes record that an email from S&L Trenching describing the event was provided to the board and that the board felt the pipe should have been correctly repaired the first time rather than as a temporary fix. The minutes say the invoices “appear to be a lack of or miscommunication from People Services,” and the board agreed to follow up with both PeopleServices and S&L Trenching.

Clerk/Treasurer Cathina Schueth told the board the PeopleServices invoice included a heater fee without supporting detail; the trustees voted to approve all presented claims while excluding the PeopleServices May 2025 heater fee. Motion to approve payment excluding that heater fee was made by Chairperson Chris Juilfs and seconded by Trustee Hunter Long; the motion carried, Yes-3, No-0, with Trustees Mike Lanctot and Larry Langer recorded as absent.

The board did not adopt further action on the invoices at the meeting beyond approving payment and directing follow-up. Trustees said they intend to continue discussions with PeopleServices and S&L Trenching to clarify the repair history and billing before releasing any disputed fees.
