Navajo County supervisors approved a materials-only contract to purchase aggregate — commonly called gravel — for the improvement of Navajo Nation Route N 9009806.
Manny, public works staff, told the board the procurement covered material only for placement on roughly two miles of roadway and that the work of placing the material will be performed by the Navajo Division of Transportation. "The contract before you is materials only contract for the purchase of aggregate based material or gravel for Navajo Nation Route N 9009806 within Navajo County District 2," Manny said, adding that the estimated material cost exceeded $100,000 and that two bids were received at a bid opening on November 13. He identified Brimhall as the apparent low bidder and said staff recommended awarding the contract to Brimhall.
Supervisor (Speaker 8) praised staff and the project’s long history, noting the procurement process began under a predecessor supervisor and emphasizing the benefit to high‑risk residents and families who rely on the road for school and work. "Thank you to our team for their proactive approach and the continuation and advocating on behalf of residents that will benefit this," the supervisor said.
Supervisor (Speaker 8) moved to approve the contract; a second was offered and the board voted by voice to approve the motion. The board did not take a roll‑call vote; the motion passed by voice vote on the record.
Why it matters: The county said the aggregate purchase is intended to improve surface condition and durability so the road will require less frequent maintenance. The project affects residents who use that route, including students attending the Holbrook Unified School District and workers who rely on the roadway for daily access.
What’s next: The county packet (provided to supervisors) contains the contract details and pricing; staff said they are available to answer member questions and will proceed with contract award and material delivery once procurement formalities are complete.
