The Navajo County Board of Supervisors voted Sept. 9 to award Contract B-25-06-019 for a solar-powered equestrian and pedestrian crossing on Buck Springs Road to AJP Electric, which submitted the low bid of $77,254.10.
Mr. Pike, speaking for public works, said the device is a solar-powered crossing that enables equestrian riders to remain on horseback and push a button to stop traffic to cross Buck Springs Road; the system can also be used by pedestrians. The project area was described as the county’s country-club area.
“We advertised this project for bid. We received three bids. The lowest bid was AJP Electric for $77,254.10, which did come in a little below the engineer’s cost estimate,” Mr. Pike said.
Supervisor Weitzinger thanked staff for the study and background information on the project and moved to approve the award; another supervisor seconded the motion and the board approved the contract by voice vote.
Public-works staff did not provide a construction start date in the public discussion; follow-up with the county’s public-works office is needed to confirm schedule and contract timeline.
