Council approves fireworks permit, special liquor license, recycling membership and a grant application for local care center

Fireworks and events: The Ainsworth Commercial Club asked for a one‑day special fireworks permit to follow a proposed Christmas parade on Sunday, Dec. 14, with Dec. 21 as a backup date in case of inclement weather. The club said the display would be short (10–15 minutes), coordinated with the fire department and intended to kick off family events. Council approved a permit for one day in December with a weather backup.
Liquor license: Council approved a special designated liquor license for the Santos Lounge for an event at the Ainsworth Conference Center on Oct. 17, 2025, benefiting the Brown County Foundation’s 30th‑anniversary celebration.
Recycling membership: Council voted to join the North Central RCND for $100 a year. Carlo Stag Miner, who identified himself as executive director of the RCND, described the group’s tire‑amnesty and paper‑shredding events and said membership would help bring those services and potential hazardous‑waste or electronics recycling efforts to Ainsworth. Council approved membership unanimously.
Grant authorization: The Sand Hills Care Center requested that the city sponsor an application to the Nebraska Department of Transportation for a wheelchair‑accessible vehicle to serve residents. Staff said the grant would cover about 80 percent of the purchase. Council authorized the mayor to sign and submit the application.
Collectively, these approvals reflect the council’s support for community events, local service partnerships and improved transportation access for care‑center residents.
