Trenton council to interview six applicants for two proposed staff roles; June 16 hearing set on COG project, budget and IADU

Mayor Erick Simmonds called the Trenton Town Council meeting to order at 8:04 p.m. on May 27, and the council approved the meeting agenda after a motion by Councilmember Kyle Kingston and a second from Councilmember Stacey Wangsgard; all councilmembers in attendance voted aye.
Councilmember Stacey Wangsgard proposed hiring two staff members — one to handle office financial duties and another to assist the council with meetings and minutes. The council discussed the suggestion and agreed it was worth pursuing, and then reviewed submitted applications.
After reviewing materials, the council determined it will interview six applicants for the proposed positions: Tauni Fanning, Jessi Craw, Shayla Barker, Katie Downs, Deyette Bradley and Wendi Pointer. The council did not record final hires or offer terms during the meeting; it directed that interviews be scheduled.
Separately, the council set its next meeting and public hearings for June 16 at 7:00 p.m. The hearings will address the Council of Governments (COG) project, the town budget and an Internal Accessory Dwelling Unit proposal. The meeting notice and agenda items were set for that date to allow public input and formal discussion.
Councilmember Donny Merrill moved to adjourn the executive session at 8:31 p.m., with Councilmember Stacey Wangsgard seconding; the motion carried with all councilmembers in attendance voting aye.
The council did not take any votes at the May 27 meeting that finalized hires or budget approvals; next procedural steps are scheduling applicant interviews and conducting the June 16 public hearings.
