Multiple Sea Trail residents urged the Town of Sunset Beach council during the budget public hearing to prioritize paving two neighborhood roads.
Mickey Smith (123 Forest Walk and Sea Trail) said Old Point Road and Clubhouse Road are "key roads" serving residents, visitors and emergency vehicles and recalled council discussion in December 2024 that might have freed $300,000 toward paving. "Let's say that you're a young person... If we don't go ahead and pave these roads we have now, we're just going to have more mess," Smith said, urging the council to act.
Michael Smarowsky (115 Clubhouse Road), chair of Sea Trail’s landscape committee, described Clubhouse Road as a primary transportation corridor whose condition has deteriorated and said traffic increased during the Calabash River Bridge replacement project. He asked the council to review Clubhouse Road’s status in the town’s paving priorities and "consider funding resurfacing in the upcoming budget or capital improvement plan."
Dawn Simorowski (115 Clubhouse Road) echoed those concerns, urged "smart growth" and said reliable infrastructure supports future growth and property values; she also suggested improving sidewalks and path connectivity alongside any road work.
Council did not take formal action on the paving requests during the hearing; the hearing closed and the council proceeded to adopt the FY 2026–27 budget ordinance.
The speakers framed their remarks as requests to prioritize capital work; no schedule, scope or funding source was committed on the record.
