Ainsworth council approves Jean Hunt for library board, fills council vacancy and names Dustin Barrell council president

The Ainsworth City Council approved a slate of routine appointments and conducted reorganization business at its meeting.

Mayor recommended appointing Jean Hunt to the library board to complete the term of a member who resigned, noting the term ends April 30, 2026; the council moved, seconded and approved the appointment.

Council also filled a seat left open after an election in which only one person ran. The mayor recommended Heather Ler to fill the vacancy; Heather had contacted the mayor and no other interest had been expressed. Council discussed whether the appointment filled the full term or only until the next election and members said they would check the record and amend the appointment if necessary; the council approved the appointment.

During reorganization, Dustin Barrell was nominated and elected council president by roll call. The council administered oaths of office earlier in the agenda.

The mayor also listed several annual appointments (city attorney, city administrator, treasurer, street and water positions and bank depositories) and said two items — the municipal physician and the prosecuting attorney — would be held for further discussion next month.
