Board updates ordinances for Veterans Treatment Court grants and approves $928,000 opioid settlement spending plan

On June 15 the Onslow County Board of Commissioners approved ordinance updates and a spending plan for opioid settlement funds and accepted updated grant totals for Veterans Treatment Court programs.
Grant ordinance updates: Kevin Patterson explained that two Veterans Treatment Court grants are being updated administratively (not new money). The SAMHSA grant total was increased to $1,199,804 and the DOJ Veterans Treatment Court discretionary grant was increased to $949,976. The board requested a program update at a future workshop and approved the ordinance adjustments by voice vote.
Opioid Settlement Fund spending plan: Health Director Dr. Chrissy Hoover presented the FY2027 Opioid Settlement Fund budget ordinance totaling $928,000. Line items included $195,000 for collaborative strategic planning, $383,000 for recovery support services, $100,000 for early intervention, $130,000 for addiction treatment for incarcerated persons, and $120,000 for re-entry programs. The board approved the resolution by voice vote.
What’s next: staff will update ordinance totals in the county budget documents and schedule the requested Veterans Treatment Court update for a future workshop.
