At a joint session during the Select Board meeting June 16, the Library Board of Trustees moved to appoint Molly Schafield to fill a trustee vacancy through May 2027.
Ryan Donovan, the library director, introduced Schafield and summarized her service: she has volunteered with the Friends of the Southboro Library, assisted at book sales and participates in a monthly virtual book club. "She's been a member of the Friends of the Southboro Library for several years," Donovan said. "She's a regular volunteer at our library book sales." Schafield told trustees she has been a Southborough resident for about 10 years and would be excited to serve.
Jane, who the meeting identified as Library chair, made the motion to appoint Schafield and trustees conducted a roll call vote; the appointment passed unanimously. The Select Board then made a corresponding motion to appoint Schafield to complete Margaret’s term; that motion also passed.
Why it matters: The appointment fills an immediate vacancy on the trustees and allows Schafield to serve through the next election cycle. Trustees said they welcomed her library experience and volunteer background.
Next steps: Schafield will serve through May 2027 and may choose to run in the election to retain the seat.
