The Town of Southborough Select Board voted June 16 to approve National Grid petition WR 31279067 to add a utility pole on Parkerville Road after the company and nearby property owners agreed on a new location. Chair Kathy opened the continuation of a hearing that began May 19 and described a compromise diagram provided in the board packet.
Andrew, a Select Board member, confirmed that he had spoken with the abutter and that the pole had been moved about 1,000 feet toward the school into a more open area. “Yes, I confirmed with John that he was okay,” Andrew said. National Grid participated on Zoom and did not oppose the new placement.
Select Board member Tim moved to approve the petition and a colleague seconded. The board recorded the vote as 5-0 in favor. After the vote, the chair moved to close the public hearing and members voted to do so.
Why it matters: The approval ends a multi‑meeting review of the pole location and reflects an agreement among the utility, the town and an abutter on a revised siting. The action allows National Grid to proceed with the project under the terms documented in petition WR 31279067.
