Palm Springs preparing for CalRecycle SB 1383 compliance review; site visit and audits expected

Staff said the city provided what it had, identified gaps (including inspections of edible‑food recovery organizations and other records), and expects CalRecycle to conduct a site visit that will include PSDS representatives inspecting commercial properties for compliance. After that site visit, CalRecycle will issue a findings report that will indicate whether the city is in compliance and what corrective actions are required.
The commission heard that PSDS is conducting summer commercial contamination audits and that PSDS crews have begun tagging bins for contamination. The waste reduction subcommittee and staff will use audit results to compile a baseline of outstanding work required to meet SB 1383 obligations and to define a timeline for compliance actions.
Staff urged patience as they assemble missing records and noted ongoing work with franchise partners and subcommittees; no formal action was taken, but commissioners requested to be kept informed of the CalRecycle site visit schedule and any required follow‑up steps.
