River Ridge reviews NPDES report and discusses storm-surge resilience planning

Johnson Engineering reported the Lee County NPDES Cycle 4 Year 7 Annual Report was filed with Lee County and will be submitted to FDEP before Nov. 1, 2024. PSGRC and board members discussed a multi-year storm-surge resilience plan and forming an advisory panel to coordinate regional efforts.
At the Oct. 22 meeting, Johnson Engineering reported that the Lee County NPDES Permit FLS000035-004 Cycle 4 Year 7 Annual Report has been filed with Lee County and will be submitted to the Florida Department of Environmental Protection ahead of the Nov. 1, 2024 deadline.
Mark Zordan told the board Lee County reviewed and approved the report and the district will continue into Year 8 reporting while awaiting a new permit expected later this fall. The firm attends bi‑monthly Lee County NPDES meetings and forwards minutes to the District Manager to keep staff apprised of evolving sampling and reporting requirements.
Separately, Eric Long, PSGRC general manager, urged a proactive approach to storm-surge protection, describing an action plan and a proposed advisory/review panel to build community resilience over the next five to 10 years. Long presented a hypothetical topographic analysis for a Hurricane Milton scenario, saying a 10–12 foot storm surge "could have caused 45% to 55% of the community to be flooded," and asked the CDD to designate a board and staff representative to coordinate with county, state and neighboring entities. The board agreed Mr. Long and newly appointed Mr. Merrill would assist; Mr. Krebs was authorized to support as needed.
No formal regulatory action was recorded; the NPDES report was presented as an informational update and the resilience discussion resulted in direction to staff and designation of representatives to assist coordination.
