Van Buren County OKs $71,000 interfund transfer after Destination Iowa grant delay

County Conservation Director Richard Daugherty told the Van Buren County Board on June 24 that release of the final Destination Iowa grant payment for the Austin Gateway Access project has been delayed. Auditor Lisa Plecker said because the General Fund will not be fully reimbursed before fiscal year end, the remaining balance must be coded as an operating transfer so the conservation department can make the final reimbursement in FY2025.
The board approved an interfund operating transfer of $71,000 from the General Fund (Fund #01000) to the Conservation Land Acquisition Fund (Fund #68000) to allow the department to close out project accounting once grant funds arrive. The motion passed on a 2–0 voice vote with Supervisor Richards not present.
Daugherty also reported the Van Buren County Historical Society asked the Conservation Board whether the county would assume maintenance of a cabin in Selma Park. The Conservation Board requested information on insurance and upkeep costs and the Historical Society offered to seek grants to offset expenses; the board took no action and asked Daugherty to research the matter further.
The conservation director added that components required to finish installing electric campsites at Austin Park Campground remain undelivered and installation is incomplete. No timetable for completion was recorded.
