Van Buren supervisors set Sept. 23 public hearing and sealed bids to sell three Farmington parcels

The Van Buren County Board of Supervisors on Aug. 26 approved Resolution #08-26-2024 to hold a public hearing and accept sealed bids for three county-owned parcels in Out Lot 40, New Addition to the Town of Farmington. The hearing and opening of bids are scheduled for 9:05 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23, 2024, in the Board of Supervisors' office at the county courthouse in Keosauqua.

Under the resolution, the county will sell the properties as three separate Auditor's Parcels (A, B and C) using the legal descriptions listed in the resolution; properties will be sold "as is," the county will not furnish abstracts, and quitclaim deeds will be prepared and recorded by the county after payment. Interested bidders must obtain and complete separate bid forms from the county auditor's office and submit sealed bids by 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 23, 2024; the board reserves the right to reject any or all bids.

The resolution includes detailed legal descriptions for each parcel and notes partial acreage taken by existing Van Buren County road easements. The board approved the resolution by roll-call vote (House — Aye; Meek — Aye; Richards — Aye). The action was moved by Meek and seconded by Richards.

The hearing will follow the procedures specified in Iowa Code 331.361 as referenced in the resolution. The county did not provide listed minimum bid amounts in the published resolution; prospective bidders should contact the auditor's office for bid forms and any additional instructions.

The board did not take any immediate sale-related decisions at the Aug. 26 meeting beyond setting the hearing and bid procedures; the sale will be decided after the public hearing and bid openings on Sept. 23.
