Van Buren County accepts two road-department resignations; engineer cleared to explore truck purchase and 28E updates

The Van Buren County Board of Supervisors accepted resignations from two full-time secondary roads equipment operators and authorized the county engineer to investigate fleet replacement options and interlocal agreement updates.
On motion by Meek, seconded by Richards, the board accepted letters of resignation from Clayton Price (effective July 5, 2024) and Mike McClellan (effective July 11, 2024). The acceptances were recorded "with regrets" and carried with three ayes.
County Engineer Ryne Thornburg asked the board to consider a used Volvo semi tractor (described as a "sister" to one the county already owns) as a potential replacement for an aging International semi. The board authorized Thornburg to check into the potential purchase, but no purchase motion or vote was recorded at the meeting.
Thornburg also presented a draft update to a 2004 28E agreement with the City of Stockport covering maintenance of Farm-to-Market road extensions within city limits; the board reviewed the draft and will provide comments at a later date. Thornburg was directed to assign new addresses and update any necessary 911 signage for a driveway north of Gray Avenue and 250th Street in Section 18-T68N-R10W.
The board recorded the personnel changes and left longer-term procurement and intergovernmental negotiation tasks to the engineer and staff.
