Council hears tourism expo report and welcomes a new police officer; camel project presentation postponed

At the Jan. 13 meeting of the Town of Courtside Common Council, Council Member Linda Goldberg reported that the La Paz Regional Tourism Team’s recent expo at Blue Water Resort and Casino drew expanded participation and strong representation from Quartzsite organizations, including the town chamber, the Women's Club, local museums and businesses.
"I am Linda Goldberg, and I am here tonight representing your regional La Paz Regional Tourism Team," Goldberg said, noting that participation doubled from the previous year and thanking volunteers and local businesses that staffed Quartzsite exhibits.
The council also received a personnel update from Chief of Police Clay Roble, who introduced new officer Antonio Espinosa. Roble said Espinosa graduated from the police academy on Dec. 12 and is in a four-phase field-training program. Officer Espinosa said he served four years in the U.S. Marine Corps and thanked the council and department for the opportunity to serve.
A scheduled presentation titled the "World's Largest Camel Project" by Dana and Dave was delayed because of technical difficulties and will be carried forward to a future meeting.
No votes or formal actions accompanied the tourism report or the new-employee introduction; the council welcomed Officer Espinosa and exchanged congratulations and thanks.
