Council pulls full check register from consent after member flags incomplete entries; minutes approved

The Town of Courtside Common Council set aside the complete check register from the consent agenda on Jan. 13 after a council member said the register contained multiple entries with incomplete categories or missing purchase descriptions. Council Member Linda Goldberg later moved to approve the minutes from the Dec. 9 regular meeting and the Dec. 16 special meeting; the motion was seconded by Vice Mayor Hammond and passed by voice vote.

The request to remove the ledger was raised during the consent-agenda review when a council member said she wanted “the complete check register pulled as incomplete,” citing several lines that listed amounts but not what was purchased. Staff and council members discussed whether any checks were time-sensitive but agreed the register could be pulled for separate consideration and further explanation. The presiding officer directed that the ledger be set aside for later discussion and said staff would provide additional documentation the following day.

The ledger the council reviewed listed accounts payable check series totaling $450,541.62 and payroll checks totaling $216,267.82, for a combined total of $666,809.44. Council did not vote on the ledger itself that night; the item was removed from consent so the council could examine the entries and decide whether to approve them in a separate action at a later date.

The minutes of the Dec. 9 and Dec. 16 meetings were approved during the consent portion of the meeting after the ledger was set aside. Council Member Linda Goldberg made the motion to approve those minutes; Vice Mayor Hammond seconded and the council approved the motion by voice.
