The Castle Valley Town Council on June 17 approved the Utah Geological Survey (UGS) FY2027 water-monitoring memorandum of understanding and authorized payment of a spring 2026 UGS invoice for $2,070.55.
Council discussed budgeting for the UGS MOU (members referenced budgeting roughly $65,000 with some prorated amounts carried into the next year) and described the monitoring service as “an essential service for a good price.” One councilmember said the invoice would be added to the payment list; the council approved payment on roll call.
Why it matters: ongoing water monitoring informs local water-resource management and helps the town track hydrologic conditions that affect planning, fire risk and water supply decisions.
What the council did: the council voted to approve the FY2027 UGS water-monitoring MOU and to pay the spring 2026 invoice of $2,070.55. Members noted prior payments were prorated and some of the prior year's paid services were carried forward.
Next steps: the finance staff will process the invoice and the town will incorporate the UGS services into next year’s monitoring schedule and budget amendments where necessary.
