The Butte‑Silver Bow Historic Preservation Commission approved three Certificates of Appropriateness at its March 3 meeting, voting to clear exterior work for the Holter Building at 34 E. Galena St., a single‑window replacement at 619 S. Idaho St., and several window and porch repairs at 326/328 S. Washington St.
HPO Kate McCourt described the Holter Building project as removing corrugated metal that currently covers storefronts to reveal original brick; where brick is in poor condition, areas may be stuccoed or covered with compatible veneers. The commission approved the COA on a motion by Chairman Steve Hinick, seconded by Commissioner Russell O’Leary.
On 619 S. Idaho St., McCourt noted the agenda listed the wrong address (416); the correct address is 619 S. Idaho. The owner, Holli Jo Sol, was not present. The commission approved replacement of one window with Renewal by Andersen Fibrex material after Commissioner O’Leary moved approval; a second was recorded though the transcript did not specify who seconded.
For 326/328 S. Washington St., the HPO described plans to replace three windows with Marvin windows (10‑over‑1 and 6‑over‑1 configurations), perform masonry repairs where corbeling is deteriorated, and rebuild two side porches to match the original appearance. Owners Mr. and Mrs. Garff attended and said they would maintain the current decorative railing height; Commissioner O’Leary moved approval and Commissioner Cameron Beardslee seconded.
All three motions carried without recorded opposition. The actions concluded routine design‑review business; staff said RFPs and restoration work timelines related to other items on the agenda would be forthcoming. The meeting adjourned at 7:00 p.m.
