Select Board approves relocation of James Ward’s aquaculture license, allows delayed start pending access reopenings

The Select Board held a public hearing at 6 p.m. on July 8 to consider an aquaculture license relocation application. Jordan Halloran, the town’s shellfish constable, explained six licensees applied and that James Ward was selected by lottery on March 19 to relocate his license from grant 3A to 2F.
Halloran noted the Division of Marine Fisheries treats intramunicipal relocations as license transfers and that the shellfish committee voted unanimously to approve the move at its March meeting. Because the west and east accesses at Crow’s Pasture are currently closed, Halloran and the board requested that the 30‑day relocation period begin only after both accesses are open; the board unanimously approved that extension as well as the relocation for the remainder of the license term through May 17, 2027.
The relocation requires an affirmative vote by the Select Board under the town’s shellfish regulations; the board’s action authorizes staff to complete the transfer on the timeline specified.
