Commissioners raised questions about historical specificity and cultural sensitivity, including references to early settlers and Native American cart paths that once crossed the parcel. Bill Collins suggested caution to avoid erasing older place‑names or creating a label that might be offensive to descendants, and another commissioner recommended additional research into the site's historic uses before forwarding a formal name to the select board.
The commission voted to table the name selection until the next meeting, asking members to gather additional historical context and for the chair to provide an interpretive sign text and background material for review.
