Hancock resident says blasting damaged her home; town CEO will contact contractor

Ruth Franzius told the Hancock Selectpersons at their Aug. 7 meeting that she believes blasting near her residence has caused cracks in ceilings and shifted pictures on walls. She presented the board with photos documenting the damage and said a building permit for activity near her home dates to 2020.
Franzius said she is "very frustrated with the handling of her complaint" and urged the board to investigate what the contractor is doing near her property. Her remarks came during the public-comment portion of the meeting.
Don Baker, the town CEO, said he would contact the company working in the area to ask questions about blasting and to determine how far the work has progressed under the 2020 permit. Baker also reported separately that he has reviewed a complaint from Alden Bunker about property damage that may be linked to erosion-control measures at Coastal Estates and noted those controls appear to be slowing water flow.
The board did not take a formal vote on Franzius's request during the meeting; Baker’s pledge to contact the company was the board’s stated next step. The town did not provide additional technical details about the alleged damage, a timeline for follow-up, or any immediate enforcement action at the meeting.
