Shelter, roads and culverts: local updates on animal control, maintenance and cleanup

JC Casteneda of Animal Control told the meeting the shelter currently holds 27 animals and staff are working on a cat-hoarding case in Rye; he said many of the cats are ill and require veterinary care and praised a traveling veterinarian who performed 27 surgeries in seven hours.
Residents also raised neighborhood maintenance concerns. One asked about cleaning county-owned property behind the fire department, reporting a rotted county-owned water bladder shedding particles and saying nearby RVs are being affected by pack rats. Humphrey said staff will follow up.
On road maintenance, a resident reported brush overgrowing both sides of streets in the Estates and that Stagecoach in front of the motel is in rough condition. Jammer said his crew is focused on culverts and assisting a project in Gisela and that significant local road work is not planned immediately; he estimated it would likely be November before his crew could address those issues.
At the meeting’s close Humphrey and Jammer said they would inspect culverts and develop a plan for moving forward. No new maintenance contracts or schedules were approved at the meeting.
