The Middlesex Borough School District Board of Education spent much of the meeting reviewing an extensive facilities and finance agenda that included contract renewals, capital transfers, and the selection of a districtwide point‑of‑sale (POS) system for school meal payments.
Facilities and finance committee chair Mrs. Vic presented the list of items, which covered the bills list, monthly secretary and treasurer reports, contract change orders, a 2025–26 garbage collection service increase, equipment purchases and installation of flooring, cancellation of capital-project balances, transfers to capital and maintenance reserves, contracts awarded, a tax levy schedule and multiple service agreements (water treatment, pest control, fire and burglar alarms, boiler maintenance and IT network/server support).
A board member asked about a remaining allowance of $4,118 on a generator project and requested the total project cost; staff said they did not have the total on hand and would follow up. The board did not take a final action on that question during the public meeting.
On the districtwide POS item (agenda item 16.12), Mrs. Vic said the recommended vendor "worked best with our system and had the lowest fees" and noted it integrated with the district’s Genesis student information system. The board discussed that the POS would replace existing lunch‑payment processes and address recurring issues with the current system; staff confirmed they had evaluated fees and compatibility.
The board was advised that professional services appointments (board attorney, auditors, architects and similar positions) do not always require competitive RFPs under the district’s established procedures, and that policy items (016 and 0168.1) would be tabled pending member edits.
No final votes on procurement or contract awards were recorded in open session for the items discussed; members were invited to submit further questions to staff or to raise items for future action. The meeting then moved to adopt an executive-session resolution for a later date.
