Sheriff’s office reports local calls, promotes March 3 'Walk for Hope'; residents press for cell-tower and abandoned-vehicle action

Sgt. Virgil Dodd of the Gila County Sheriff’s Office summarized calls from the Roosevelt area and encouraged residents to report abandoned vehicles on Feb. 12.
Dodd announced the Copper Basin Drug Coalition 'Walk for Hope' on March 3, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Gila County Courthouse and concluding at Globe Park with food and entertainment.
In open discussion Supervisor Tim Humphrey said he would seek more information about a proposed cell tower near the church and which companies are involved. Residents complained about abandoned cars in neighborhoods; Sgt. Dodd explained how to report such vehicles and what constitutes abandonment under sheriff’s office practices.
Pete Phillips with PHI distributed program flyers, answered questions and reported there were 27 flights out of the local post office last year. The meeting ended with the next session scheduled for March 6 at 1 p.m.
