Detention center projects to finish near budget; county benefits trend falls to about 6%

"It looks like the amount that was given to us, we are going to come in within about 150,000 give or take," the presenter said, noting off‑site medical costs and payroll as the two biggest variables that could change final outlays.
Board members asked for clarifications on staffing counts; the presenter said the total employee count is about 347, including roughly 54 medical staff and 27 in the academy (the academy originally started with 35 recruits).
On employee benefits, the benefits presenter (referred to as John in the meeting) told members that medical trend had peaked earlier in the year and has been decreasing; the presenter reported the program was trending around 6% and, with increased pharmacy revenue and employer premium changes, was not projected to need additional funds this fiscal year.
The board asked staff to prepare final numbers for the July meeting and to monitor outstanding DHS bills and off‑site medical charges that could affect year‑end projections.
