Londonderry board grants special exception for 8-by-20-foot portable storage unit

The Londonderry Zoning Board of Adjustment voted June 17 to grant a special exception that allows a steel portable storage unit to remain at 82 WY Hill Road.
Nicholas Canada told the board the 8-by-20-foot unit has been in the rear of the family’s 1.5-acre property for about five years and is used to store yard-maintenance equipment and collectible motorcycle and car parts. He described the structure as weather-resistant, set on blocks and well maintained.
The board solicited public comment and read a letter from neighbor Lee Brezlo, which said the storage unit had not been a nuisance or eyesore and expressed wholehearted support for the exemption. Donna Manorini, a neighbor at 91 WY Hill Road, spoke in favor and said she was unaware of the unit until the hearing and that the applicants were “wonderful neighbors.”
Board members questioned the applicant about combustible materials and were told none are stored there now (the applicant said a snowblower had been stored previously). The board reviewed the special-exception criteria in the Londonderry Zoning Ordinance, including impacts on health and safety, traffic, neighborhood compatibility, property values, nuisance potential, and setbacks, and found the applicant’s testimony satisfied those requirements.
After deliberation the board moved and approved the special exception; the record does not include individual member vote tallies. The board noted the unit’s location—set back from the road and on blocks—and that staff had determined the case carried no regional impact.
