Danville selectmen discuss Cemetery Trustees vacancy and groundskeeping arrangements

At the May 4, 2026 meeting of the Danville Board of Selectmen, Cemetery Trustee Beth Caillouette described a vacancy that arose after elections when the person who received three write-in votes declined the role. The Town Clerk contacted the State and was told Selectmen now have appointment authority for vacancies rather than leaving the seat unfilled until a future election.
Caillouette, a trustee since 1991, said she hopes the Selectmen will appoint someone who is willing to learn the role and noted the time commitment is modest. She described the trustees' current groundskeeping arrangement with AcreShaper, saying that company is the only contractor willing to work under the trustees' conditions: they mow only sections that need mowing and coordinate around burial schedules. Caillouette said the veteran's organization plans to meet with the trustees this summer and that the Board could post the vacancy on the town website.
Selectmen asked administrative follow-up questions including whether statutory posting requirements apply; Caillouette said there were none but that outreach would be appreciated. No appointment was made at the meeting; the trustees and Board agreed candidates could consult with incumbent trustees before an appointment.
