A written letter from resident Ed Stepka, read into the record by Mayor Procuk, expressed opposition to a prior suggestion to keep the village basketball courts open until 9 p.m. The letter, signed by ten additional residents, said in part that "the current setup of closing the courts at 5 p.m. seems to be working quite well" and raised concerns that non-resident men had taken over the courts in the past, preventing children from using them.
Councilwoman Presot reported the Wage & Salary Committee discussed filling a mechanic position for the Service Department but referred the matter back to the Streets Committee for further review. Councilman Berzins reported the Safety Committee received information about a proposed K-9 unit; Valley View Sergeant Crumbley and K-9 Max provided information to the committee. Councilman Lasky asked about costs of the K-9 program and Councilman Hudson said he believes the K-9 unit would cost less than hiring a mechanic.
No formal decision was made on changing court hours at the meeting. A Safety Committee meeting to discuss speed cameras and related safety items is scheduled for June 9.
