BJHSC principal outlines course catalog, transition supports and CTE expansion at Batesville board meeting

Casey Burnside, principal of Batesville Junior High School (BJHSC), presented the BJHSC course catalog and transition plan at the Batesville School District Board meeting on Feb. 9, 2026. The presentation outlined supports for students moving from elementary to junior high and from junior high to high school, including counselor visits, preview events and a parent orientation.
The catalog lists core requirements and elective options and highlights accelerated and honors coursework. Notably, BJHSC offers several courses for high-school credit for 8th-grade students, including Algebra I, English I, Physical Science, Intro to Agriculture and Intro to Computer Science. The catalog also emphasizes Career & Technical Education (CTE) pathway planning, Career Awareness and expanded after-school clubs and extracurriculars.
Administrators described targeted supports including an Academic Advisory/Intervention period for students not yet meeting state proficiency in reading, math and science, and enrichment opportunities for students performing at or above grade level. The meeting packet notes more than 80 families participating in a K–3 literacy tutoring grant and lists counselors and support contacts for BJHSC.
The board approved the BJHSC 2026–27 course catalog by motion of Andy Walmsley, seconded by Chris Milum; the motion carried 7–0. District staff will publish the catalog and related enrollment guidance for families following approval.
