The superintendent said Wendy Rosi of Eliot raised concerns that the district’s current budget timeline conflicted with the window she must meet for absentee ballots. To reconcile both requirements, the superintendent proposed a meeting on May 7 and the district budget meeting on May 14; because Maine requires a seven-day public posting of the budget, the superintendent said the district would post the budget the evening of May 14 to keep within the state’s 30-day rule for school budgets while getting ballots out in time.
A board member said scheduling the February meeting on Feb. 12 (rather than later in the month) also helped staff prepare data in time for the March budget presentation. Board members agreed the suggested May 14 timing was a "sweet spot" that met both the town's absentee-ballot constraints and the district's statutory timeline.
No formal vote was recorded beyond consensus to proceed with the proposed dates; staff were directed to post and communicate the adjusted schedule.
