Florence approves emergency pump‑station repair and advances Hwy. 49 sewer work

City Engineer Tim Parker told the board that repairs to the Dogwood Hills Pump Station were declared an emergency to prevent potential raw sewage leakage. The board approved payment of $24,107.93 to Maintenance Systems, Inc. (invoice M25017‑C‑01‑Final) to cover the repair.
Parker also recommended purchasing a 4‑inch Inserta Valve (Hydra Stop) for distribution system work; the board approved the low quote from Eagle Pipe and Supply for $6,792.00 over Consolidated Pipe & Supply’s $7,200.00.
The board approved Pay Request #7 for Hemphill Construction Company, Inc., for the Hwy. 49 Eagle Post Road sanitary sewer additions Phase II in the amount of $12,900.20; that vote was recorded with Alderman Mason Herrin not participating. The board also authorized and directed Mayor Gunn to execute a contract with Thornton Construction Company, Inc. for the Hwy. 49 Eagle Post Road sanitary sewer additions Phase III project, contingent on the city attorney’s review and approval of contract documents.
Those actions were presented as necessary to protect public health and to continue the sewer additions project; the board recorded motions and roll call votes where specified in the minutes.
