CUSSETA, Ga. — At a work session on April 28 the county heard a presentation from Enrichment Services and discussed several operational items including planning‑and‑zoning amendments and possible trash‑fee increases.
Belva Dorsey‑Mott of Enrichment Services and Sabrina Stephens, identified as a school‑board representative, described workforce and certification training programs — including EMT, commercial driver’s license (CDL) and certified nursing assistant (CNA) courses — and asked the county to publicize training opportunities and consider a future letter of support.
Community Development staff provided a draft of Planning & Zoning recommendations to modify the conditional‑use permit (CUP) process. The draft would change when a CUP is required based on acreage or the type of dwelling (mobile, modular or stick‑built), align CUP requirements with health‑department permits and clarify notification, sign and inspection steps. Planning & Zoning asked the County Attorney to review the draft before the commission takes action.
County Manager Thomas Weaver told the commission that solid‑waste collection costs have risen and recommended a $2 monthly increase — from $20 to $22 — to help cover expenses; the commission agreed to add the trash‑rate question to a future work session for formal consideration.
Other work‑session items included capital equipment quotes for a batwing tractor to be reviewed at the May meeting, bank‑signer resolution language to transfer funds from an old account, cemetery drainage work and public‑works updates on wells and road shoulder repairs.
The commission entered an executive session on personnel matters and reconvened before adjourning.
