CUSSETA, Ga. — Superior Court Clerk Tami Wade asked the Cusseta–Chattahoochee County Commission to fund a part‑time position to cover court days and statutory office hours, saying the office historically had three staff and that current staffing is insufficient.
Wade told commissioners at the April 14 public hearing that she had waited two years and that the office cannot operate as required without additional help on court days. "All she is asking is for $15,000.00, for a part‑time person," the minutes quote. Wade said she would have to close the office to attend mandatory training without additional staff to cover operations.
Chairman Charles Coffey acknowledged the clerk’s need but cautioned that the commission must balance multiple departmental requests against limited revenues. Coffey and other commissioners said they would take the request under consideration but noted that broader budget shortfalls — and the timing of potential revenue increases from state action or voter‑approved sales taxes — limit immediate options.
The commission did not approve the requested position during the hearings but asked staff to include the request in budget reconciliation materials and to return with options for funding or phased implementation.
