RSU 38 board approves routine items, accepts music teacher resignation and enters executive session

At its meeting, the RSU 38 board moved through several action items and approved them unanimously. The board approved the minutes of Sept. 4 and Sept. 18, adopted board goals for 2024–25, and approved a requested extended leave of absence through June 2025 for Trish Walters, a grade-five teacher at Wayne Elementary.
The board also approved an overnight field trip for the middle school to its outdoor classroom, scheduled for April 29–May 2, 2025, and adopted the district's Return to Learn plan required for ESSER funding reimbursement; staff noted ESSER expenditures needed invoicing by Sept. 30 and documentation completed by the end of December to secure reimbursement.
The board accepted the resignation of middle school music teacher Adam Scarpone; staff said they will meet with music teachers and principals to plan interim coverage, advertise the opening and use a team-based hiring approach. Finally, the board voted to enter executive session to review confidential records pursuant to 1 M.R.S.A. §405(6)(F). Several motions were moved and seconded and each vote was recorded as "all in favor" (unanimous).
