The Laramie City Council on June 16 unanimously adopted the city’s fiscal 2026–27 budget, approving Resolution 2026-43 to set appropriations for the year beginning July 1, 2026.
Director Wade told the council the budget represents an expression of the governing body’s priorities and is roughly 10% smaller than last year’s total mainly because the city reprioritized capital projects. Council committed specific reserves in the adopted plan: $3 million in the general fund for a surface water drainage program expansion, $500,000 for right-sizing operations, $4 million for continued street improvements, $2 million in the water fund and $1 million in the wastewater fund for housing-enabling infrastructure.
Wade said the city is reporting those commitments in its financials so they are transparent and available for public review. He described other changes in the budget process aimed at clearer planning and noted staff will continue refining multi-year capital planning.
Council members praised staff for the budget work and for presenting the materials in an accessible way. Councilor Lockhart and others highlighted the roughly 10% reduction from last year as a notable savings while maintaining essential services. Discussion also emphasized new staff hires included in the budget to address service gaps identified during the year.
The vote was 9–0 in favor. The resolution directs city leaders to proceed with the appropriations and authorized expenditures as presented; no amendments were recorded on the council floor. The council will monitor implementation and return to the subject as needed in future sessions.
