The commission approved a Certificate of Appropriateness for demolition of the existing structure and new construction at 330 Barber Street (POA 2026‑05095) after staff found the revised design to be consistent with the Boulevard Historic District guidelines.
Andrew Malik, the petitioner, told the commission the original building could not be practically salvaged and that the proposed new construction sought to retain character-defining elements. He asked the commission to allow limited staff‑level adjustments to window details during final design. ‘‘If it is acceptable and approval is granted, that staff-level window tweaks be allowed,’’ Malik said.
Commissioners requested documentation of the existing house and asked that staff be permitted to approve minor window adjustments that preserve solid‑to‑void rhythm and sill line consistency. One commissioner expressed reservations but voted against the motion; the motion to approve with specified conditions carried 4–1.
Conditions attached to the approval include submission of HABS‑level documentation of the existing house, allowance at staff discretion for narrow window adjustments consistent with the guidelines, and an option for exposed rafter tails on non‑gable roof ends.
The decision authorizes demolition and new construction to proceed subject to the conditions and staff review noted above.
