Daniels County commissioners agreed Feb. 17 to provide $54,400 in matching funds for a historic-preservation grant to repair and stabilize the county courthouse.
Commissioners reviewed a letter from John Box requesting county sign-off and discussed the scope and staffing needed to complete work in the courthouse basement. After questions about the scope and whether county crews could perform some work, a commissioner moved to approve the matching funds and the motion was seconded and carried.
The match is intended to support a larger grant the county would use for foundation, balcony and roof repairs, commissioners said. Staff asked the board for letters of support for the grant application; the commissioners agreed to provide them and asked staff to deliver any criteria needed for the letters.
The board did not specify a formal funding source for the match during the discussion; county staff will enter the item into the county’s budgeting process and follow up with details on timing and any required contract language. The commission’s approval authorizes county staff to sign the requested letter and to proceed with grant-related documentation.
The county will next prepare application support materials and verify the project schedule with grant administrators.
