The Batesville Planning Commission voted to schedule a public hearing next month to consider an amendment to Chapter 14.08 of the city zoning code. Commissioners were told that narrative descriptions of the I‑1 and I‑2 industrial zones were unintentionally omitted from the packet sent to city council and need to be restored so the chapter reflects the original intent.
A planning staff member said the change is a corrective insertion — the sections outline what the two industrial zones are intended to cover and had been part of the original zoning code. "What's being added is the sections and the narrative description which was in the original zoning code under each industrial zone," the staff member said, noting the addition completes the chapter.
The commission voted by voice to schedule a public hearing. Commissioners said the public hearing is intended to give the public and council an opportunity to review and comment before any official amendment is recommended to the city council.
