Batesville planners approve Wayside family and senior housing site plans

The Batesville Planning Commission voted to approve site plans for the Wayside Family Housing development and the adjacent Senior Housing Estates during its regular meeting. The family project is planned as a 60-unit rental building of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, the applicant’s agent said.
"The one on the screen now is the family project — it's 60 units of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments," said Casey Kleinhens, agent for the property owner. Kleinhens said the development will be held long-term by the ownership group and that design is at a design-development level. She told commissioners the applicant expects final engineering approvals and a closing between late April and late May.
Planning staff advised the commission that the packet included a narrative overview and staff comments and that, to date, staff had no unresolved issues with the proposal. "We've had discussions for a couple of months," a planning staff member said. Commissioners asked about monthly rents; Kleinhens said one-bedroom units would rent for about $500 a month, two-bedrooms about $750 and three-bedrooms about $900.
Commissioners moved to approve the Wayside Family Housing site plan by voice vote; no opposition was recorded and the motion passed. After approving the family site plan, the commission considered and approved the companion Senior Housing Estates site plan. The senior parcel was shown with a primary access to Broadwater and a required secondary access for fire/emergency service.
The approvals clear the projects to proceed to final engineering and permitting steps. The applicant and staff said the developments are intended to remain rental properties under long-term ownership.
