Eastchester board honors graduating students, athletes and performing-arts winners at June meeting

The Eastchester Union Free School District board of education used its June 16 meeting to recognize student achievements across academics, athletics and the arts.
Principal Welsh introduced salutatorian Maximillian "Max" Lynn, noting his National Merit recognition, completion of 10 AP courses, leadership of academic teams, music participation and plans to attend Carnegie Mellon University. "I think I have a strong desire to understand the world and learn as much about it as I can," Lynn said, reflecting on his academic curiosity.
Valedictorian Sarah Mortonson was also honored for academic and extracurricular breadth, including varsity letters in multiple sports, a TEDx presentation and leadership roles on the district's artificial intelligence task force. Mortonson said she is grateful to teachers and administrators across the district and credited early elementary staff for sparking her curiosity.
The board recognized outstanding athletic achievements, including Phoebe Gould's school records across multiple jumps and throws and a pentathlon score of 3,175 points at the New York State Championship meet. Coach Matthew Demo and Coach Mortonson highlighted that Phoebe holds five school records and placed fourth at the state meet this season, describing her as a four-time county champion and Nike All-American.
Performing arts were celebrated as well: the Eastchester High School Players Club earned Metro Awards and student Luke Umbragio received recognition for outstanding comedic performance at the tri-state Metro Awards; he credited the program and directing team for the production's success.
Elementary students from Greenville were honored for placing third in the New York State 'First in Math' finals for third-graders; teachers and coaches who prepared the students were named and thanked.
The meeting closed its recognition portion with applause and the board moved on to routine business, including a consent agenda and a brief public comment period.
