Lillie Chambers requested the closure of Highway 43 using the same times and route map as in previous years; Mayor Ryan Cheney introduced Resolution 2026-2.1 to permit the temporary use of Highway 43 for the special event. The council voted to approve Resolution 2026-2.1 on a motion moved by Dan Zieg and seconded by Pete Simmons; the roll-call vote was unanimous.
Chambers also requested funding for a fireworks show tied to the 250th anniversary. Pete Simmons moved and Dan Zieg seconded a motion to approve a $14,000 fireworks budget; the motion passed unanimously (Zieg, Buck, Schmidt, Simmons). The council approved closing Garden Street for the Firefly Festival on Saturday, June 13 from morning until midnight; the council directed staff to bring a resolution for that street closure to the March 9 meeting for formal adoption.
City staff will now proceed to finalize event maps, permits and the fireworks contract consistent with the approved budget and the conditions described at the meeting.
