The Batesville City Council voted to authorize the mayor to apply for a Federal Aviation Administration grant on behalf of the Batesville Regional Airport Commission to fund runway paving and widening.
City staff explained the FAA would underwrite paving for the middle 100 feet of the east‑west runway but not the full 150‑foot width the city seeks to preserve. Staff said they had worked to stack available grants so FAA funding ordinarily used to relocate runway lighting could instead support repaving, reducing the need to remove pavement and move lights. Councilmembers praised airport commissioners and staff for assembling the funding strategy; the resolution was moved, seconded and adopted by voice vote.
The authorization allows the mayor’s office to submit grant applications and pursue available, stackable funding streams. Council did not vote on specific construction contracts at the meeting; any future construction expenditures would return to council for formal approval as required by procurement rules.
