Broken Bow public works reports: easements, meter audit and water main connections

Blake Waldow, Electric Superintendent, told the Board of Public Works on Jan. 27 that Miller & Associates is working on easements for the Eagle Crest subdivision, the City Hall alley and an area near First Interstate Bank; work at Eagle Crest is about 90% complete and will finish when warmer weather arrives. Waldow said crews have finished tree trimming on the north side of town and will begin trimming on the southwest side. He also reported that meter audits are underway and that multipliers on some meters were found to be incorrect, prompting follow-up work to correct billing multipliers.
Ryan Jones, Water/Sewer Superintendent, reported a SCADA system outage that caused a loss of communication with the well field. Jones said Well 14’s meter was broken and "reading backwards," and that a technician or contractor identified as Sargent repaired the meter. Jones said staff are investigating the communications path between Melham and the well field to restore and secure SCADA connections.
Jones additionally reported routine training: one employee, Evan, attended a class in Kearney and several water/sewer employees attended continuing-education sessions. He said the department is draining oil from Power Plant engines to use for heating and will have Aqua Aerobics check a blower at Basin 2 to diagnose repeated belt failures and have the decanter heaters checked for a possibly bad thermostat. Jones said the department plans to start connecting services along Highway 2 to the new main and abandon the old main once connections proceed.
The updates were provided as department head reports; no formal board action on these operational items is recorded in the minutes. The meeting adjourned at 1:02 p.m.
