Bayard council approves bills, awards Keno funds and OKs parks UTV; VFW request tabled

At its April 14 meeting the Bayard City Council approved $206,681.84 in city bills and claims, approved Chimney Rock Villa bills totaling $313,783.96, allocated $3,500 in Keno funds to the Morrill County Rockers, approved a $9,500 UTV purchase for parks and tabled a VFW & YAY Sports request.
The Bayard City Council on April 14 approved a series of routine and larger expenditures, allocated local Keno funds to a youth sports team and tabled a funding request the council said lacked information.
Council member Diane Kraus moved to approve $3,500 in Keno funds to the Morrill County Rockers to cover uniforms; Garrett Schukei seconded and the motion carried on a unanimous roll call. The council also voted unanimously to table a request from VFW & YAY Sports after the requester did not appear and supporting information was not provided, Council member Chris Baird moved and Tanner Henkel seconded.
Council member Chris Baird moved to approve all city bills and claims in the amount of $206,681.84; Garrett Schukei seconded and the motion passed on a unanimous roll call. The payable list included large entries such as MEAN ($78,420.42) and payroll ($52,465.06), as well as vendor charges for Midwest Salt ($6,352.30), Chimney Rock Villa-UHC ($11,177.49) and others as presented to the council.
In a separate motion Baird moved to approve Chimney Rock Villa bills and claims presented in the amount of $313,783.96; Schukei seconded and the motion was recorded as carried. The council also approved the parks’ purchase of a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) from Frank Powersports for $9,500 after a motion from Baird and a second from Schukei; that vote was unanimous.
All votes recorded at the April 14 meeting were unanimous among the five council members present (Chris Baird, Garrett Schukei, Marty Marquez, Tanner Henkel and Diane Kraus). The meeting record notes Mayor Scot Ouderkirk and Council Member Jamie Hernandez were absent.
